Down-to-Earth Document Collaboration
With the recent Amazon EC2 disruption, this seems like a good time to remind all the Cloud skeptics and do-it-yourself IT types who aren't afraid of servers and storage that Kerio Workspace can be hosted on-premise, just like our messaging, telephony, and security products. Of course, all of our partners and existing customers already know that. After all, we have been selling and supporting downloadable software for the better part of 14 years. But Software-as-a-Service offerings seem to be the only products worth blogging about these days, so I figured I would throw a shout out to the IT peeps still kicking it old school and let them know that we've got them covered.
Now, please don't misinterpret this as a slam against the Cloud. Kerio has been ahead of the curve as far promoting virtualization and simplifying IT deployment for small businesses. We have several great partners that host and support our products in a variety of scenarios to cover the changing needs of growing companies. We ourselves use cloud-based solutions for critical applications. But, practically speaking, many SMBs are looking to maximize previous investments in network infrastructure and hardware. In fact, a lot of our customers are running the latest version of our products on the same hardware they originally installed them on eight or more years ago (let that sink in, Redmondites). Our stuff, while not as hyped as the Cloud-app du jour, is packed with critical functionality and additional features that a one-size fits-all-solution can't always offer.
So as you consider solutions for creating, updating and sharing documents and content within your organization, by all means consider cloud delivered options. Just remember the cloud is not the only option for sharing and collaboration. If you want your files to be stored locally, you don't have to sacrifice simplicity or spend a lot to do it on premise.
