Kerio Technologies Utilizes Sophos to Bring Unprecedented Security to Social Collaboration and Online File Synchronization

Kerio Workspace 2.0 Features Sophos' Malware Engine to Bridge the Security Gap Between Local and Cloud File Synchronization

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 12, 2012 - Kerio Technologies, a leading provider of secure communication and collaboration solutions, today announced that Kerio Workspace 2.0, the latest version of Kerio's social collaboration tool, now includes a robust malware security layer from IT security and data protection company Sophos.

Collaboration software like Kerio Workspace is being utilized to upload millions of files each day because it is an easy way to share content. However, files being transferred from a local server to the cloud only increase the chances of users exposing the network to viruses and other forms of malware.

Much of the current focus on file synchronization security relates to passwords and encryption for storing and transferring data. With Kerio Workspace 2.0, an additional security layer from Sophos protects shared mission-critical business data by stopping malware and potentially harmful embedded code.

"Many of today's businesses rely on products like Kerio Workspace to store and share all kinds of files," said Michael Rogers, vice president, global alliances and OEM, Sophos. "However, anytime you bring in content from outside the firewall with the intention of sharing it with your colleagues, it's critical to deploy an added layer of security. Our antivirus engine will help improve productivity by creating a secure environment for Kerio Workspace users to share content, with both internal and remote users."

Kerio Workspace 2.0 includes the new Kerio Workspace Client file synchronization agent, which gives users the ability to instantly push locally saved changes of a file to the cloud and back to other users' locally synchronized files. The new Kerio Workspace client allows users to work offline, and when they connect, any changes saved locally to a synchronized file are automatically shared with their colleagues who are subscribed to that File Library. All files--whether uploaded or downloaded--are automatically scanned by Sophos. The server will retain the file version history in case users need to revert to an old version.

"Kerio Workspace 2.0 with Sophos is not only an important step for our product, but an important security layer for the growing collaboration and file sharing space," said Scott Schreiman, CEO, Kerio Technologies. "Whether via the cloud, or an on-premise server, many of our Workspace customers are sharing data with outside partners and customers. They will sleep better knowing we have partnered with a best-in-class security vendor to keep their data safe."

In addition to Sophos integration and file library synchronization, other new features in Kerio Workspace 2.0 include:

  • Events and Tasks Components - Simplify team coordination by syncing key project dates and deadlines tracked in Kerio Workspace with users' native calendar applications like Microsoft Outlook and Apple iCal.
  • Optimized for the iPad - Users can now read and post news feed comments on spaces and pages with the iPad. They can also compose and edit text components using the rich text editor.
  • Social User Interface - Helps users customize the look of their pages much like social media sites. Included are new background options, graphical elements and user-profile pictures that now appear next to each news feed comment.

Kerio Workspace 2.0 is available as a free Starter Edition so businesses can evaluate how the product fits in their real-world environment. The Starter Edition is a fully functional version of Workspace and allows for unlimited users at a specific organization. The data storage limit is 5 GB for an unregistered installation. When businesses register, the data storage limit raises to 10 GB per organization.

The standard edition of Kerio Workspace 2.0 is currently available as a hosted or on-premise solution from authorized Kerio Partners and resellers. First year pricing is $165 for a 5-user on-premise license with Sophos antivirus. Additional user licenses are $33 for the first year. The product is available in 16 languages.
